Internships

Undergraduate and Graduate student applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the summer, fall, spring, or academic year placements (August – May). We request a minimum of 3 months or 1 semester commitment.

Requirements

Undergraduate or Graduate level study in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology, or related field.  Shows creative initiative and self-motivation.

Work Style

The Interfaith Center fosters a work atmosphere that is team oriented and relaxed.   Staff is expected to be focused on the work of the wider interfaith community and, as such, may be required to participate in personal and team advancement exercises.  When the intern is a student, the Interfaith Center covenants with the student’s school to help the student grow in a professional capacity.

As a faith based organization, the Interfaith Center requires some familiarity with faith and the ability to articulate policy and advocacy in theological frameworks and in non-dogmatic ways.

Directives are task oriented with demands on time sensitive materials.

All interns are expected to stay flexible, and be willing to help with all Center activities; all positions include “other duties as assigned.”

Consistent with the personnel policies of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Compensation

The Interfaith Center does not compensate interns participating in its internship program but does offer training and reimbursement for travel and expenses. We are more than happy to coordinate with your university if they offer course credit for your experience.
