Health Care

Extend physical and mental health care to all Virginians.

Over 1 million Virginians lack health care coverage, 28% of whom are adults below the Federal Poverty Level. The uninsured are 4 times more likely to rely on emergency rooms and often lack preventive care and treatment, resulting in poorer health adversely affecting work.

Virginia ranks 47th nationally in Medicaid spending per capita, 43rd as a percentage of state spending.

Virginia ranks 14th in the nation in per capita income, yet ranks in the bottom ten states in per capita spending for community-based mental health services.

Due to recent proactive outreach in the state's children's health insurance program (FAMIS), enrollment increased 41% in 9 months.

We will support:

Improved outreach and the removal of barriers to enrollment in FAMIS and broadening it to include parents.

Access to health insurance and services for low-income working Virginians.

Assistance for the purchase of prescription drugs.

Community-based mental health services and quality residential care throughout the state.
