Download Flyer (.doc)

On Sunday, December 4 the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy will offer its 2005 Social Justice U program for those interested in learning about legislative issues that may come before the Virginia General Assembly in 2006. The program will be held from 2:00 until 4:30 p.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, 9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, two miles west of I-495. Register Online

A workshop entitled PayDay Loans and the Working Poor will be offered by the Virginia Coalition for Responsible Lending, a group chaired by Jay Speer of the Virginia Poverty Law Center.

Betsy Edwards, executive director of the Virginia Indigent Defense Coalition will speak about providing legal counsel for the poor.

The third workshop addresses the presence of mercury in some vaccines and efforts to make all vaccines safe and trusted.

Participants will attend a general session on actions and resources available to citizen advocates who endeavor to influence legislation toward a more just and compassionate commonwealth.

The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy brings together individuals and communities of the Christian, Islamic and Jewish traditions around their common concern for social justice. Supported by their sacred texts, members of the Interfaith Center advocate on behalf of Virginia’s most vulnerable populations while reviewing legislation and programs in the commonwealth. The Center’s priority issues are: poverty and the working poor, health care, at-risk children, housing and homelessness, criminal justice and the environment. The Interfaith Center’s website can be found at www.virginiainterfaithcenter.org.

There is no charge for attending Social Justice U. Reservations are not required but are encouraged. Call 703-360-5034.
