Mr. Dan Dowdy

Dan Dowdy is Associate Professor of Business Administration at Mary Baldwin College’s Roanoke Center. He advises students in the undergraduate Adult Degree Program, oversees non-credit certificate programs, and he recently served as co-chair of the college’s Business Administration department. He also coordinates the study abroad program for adult students. Dan has been with Mary Baldwin College for 12 years. He is active in the Society for Human Resource Management and the New Century Technology Council in Roanoke.

Prior to his tenure at Mary Baldwin, Dan owned and managed an executive recruiting firm and worked for 13 years in the forest products industry in Virginia, Georgia, Ohio, and Wisconsin. He helped found and served two years as board president for the Roanoke Valley Interfaith Hospitality Network, part of a national organization that helps homeless families. The network comprises 27 Christian, Jewish, and Buddhist congregations from all across the Roanoke Valley.

Dan and his family have been active members of Christ Episcopal Church in Roanoke for 18 years. He served two terms on the Vestry, including one year as Senior Warden, and he has been involved in other Christ Church ministries and committees. Dan’s wife, Joan, is a special education teacher, and they have three children: Jason 29, Ben 26, and Lauren 22.

Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and German from Lynchburg College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii.
