Bruce and Connie Meyer
When it comes to Bruce and Connie Meyer, it’s rare to find one of them without the other. This dynamic couple from Virginia Beach, lives and works together. Their employee benefits firm, Meyer Group Insurance, designs in-state and multi-state plans for businesses. Luckily for us, the same drive and energy they contribute to their fast-growing business extends to their devotion and passion for advocacy on behalf of children and parents throughout Virginia.
With Connie serving as the lay president of the board for Prevent Child Abuse Hampton Roads and Bruce as its Vice President of Advocacy, the success rate of introduction and passage of beneficial legislation in the General Assembly of Virginia has been unprecedented. Their good works and relationship-building efforts have earned them tremendous respect among Virginia’s most influential elected officials. To Connie’s surprise (but no surprise to Bruce) she has earned the nickname of “the silver bullet,” for her uncanny ability to “kill” ill conceived legislation and to negotiate for positive legislation.
The Meyers have instituted nonprofit training sessions across the state and are in the process of creating the Freddie Foundation for Children. Bruce was appointed to a four-year term on the State Board of Community Colleges in 2001 and currently serves as a member of the board of Tidewater Community College. He was elected earlier this year as Chairman of the Second Congressional District of the Republican Party of Virginia.
