Virginia Interfaith Center Board Information

Board Membership

The Virginia Interfaith Center Board benefits from two types of Director categories.

    1. Participating judicatories are entitled to one Director (currently there are 20)

    2. 7 At-large directors are elected for a 3 year term (21 total) at the Annual Meeting of the Corporation

Present Board Members

Meet our New Board Members

Dr. James Burke
Jim is a change management consultant currently working with Northrop Grumman. He is co-chair of the Stewardship of Creation team for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and is a member of the vestry of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Arlington. He is a founding member of Virginia Interfaith Power and Light.

Anne Murphy
Anne is the Program Director for Parish Social Ministry, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington and is a Member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community, Alexandria. She is a member of the faith relations committee of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia, is a member of the Advisory Council for Washington D.C./Northern Virginia Ignatian Lay Volunteer Corps, and serves as Consultor to the Arlington Diocese Peace and Justice
Commission.

Derek Myers
Derek is Associate Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History at Virginia Tech. He is a member of the Parish Life Committee of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg. He is the current chair of the New River Valley Chapter of the Center as well as a Treasurer of the Valley Interfaith Child Care Center.

Sylvia Newman
Sylvia attends Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Ashland. She is a trained Social Worker whose work has included juvenile justice, social welfare, and low-income housing. She has also had a long career as a private clinical practitioner. She served on the board of Memorial Guidance Clinic and is the former president of the Board of Hanover Habitat for Humanity.

Richard Samet
Richard specializes in civil litigation for Florance Gordon Brown law offices in Richmond. He concentrates on defense litigation, real estate and personal injury law. Additionally, he is a frequent speaker on the topics of risk management and insurance. He is a member of Richmond’s Jewish community.
