The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy will participate in an summit conference in Norfolk focusing on lowering poverty and raising economic opportunities.

“Cutting Poverty and Building Opportunity in Virginia: A Summit for Stakeholders” will be held at the Waterside Marriott on Tuesday, May 3. VICPP is joining sponsors the Center for American Progress and the Virginia Civic Engagement Table as organizers of the gathering. Leaders including legislators, activists, organizers and advocates will meet together to discuss policies and ways to advance economic security for Virginians.

The First Lady of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe (pictured below), will be the keynote speaker at 10 a.m.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and breakfast, followed by Mrs. McAuliffe’s presentation and a panel discussion on removing barriers to economic opportunities.

The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy’s Executive Director Kim Bobo will moderate a multi-faith panel discussion during a working lunch time starting at noon.

Afternoon breakouts will look at solutions for issues such as wage theft, environmental justice and raising the minimum wage, and advocacy strategies such as social media, storytelling and working with the media.
